Why is now such a good time to think about real estate investing?

Managing Director of Keego Investments, Eimear Gourley

Dubbed the NI Property Girl on social media, Eimear explained, “This time of year is about one thing and only one, the man in the red suit.

From now on it’s gifts, Christmas parties (if we’re lucky), and last minute shopping.

“One thing that always comes back to the bottom of the list in December is moving or investing in real estate. I’ve always thought it’s a bit of an urban myth that there are fewer properties available for purchase at Christmas time than any other; in fact, there are as many homes on the market today as there are the rest of the year.

“That’s why, over the holiday season, I’ve been advising my clients, old and new, to stick with it and keep an eye out for these real estate alerts. When everyone is celebrating, now is your chance to secure a fantastic deal. So log on, talk to real estate agents, and attend these tours.

“The market might be just as busy, but the competition is definitely fading. We’re less inclined to go out on cold nights and make after-work tours, so while other investors are toasty warm inside, you can brave the elements, grab the chance, and see what happens.

“The January home ownership rush starts early, so now is your chance to get ahead of the game.

“This Christmas in particular is a very interesting time for the property market in the UK and Ireland. Over the past two years, many people approaching retirement and enjoying this part of life have postponed downsizing and have stayed in their large family homes due to market uncertainties.

“Now that everything is opening up again, downsizers feel more comfortable doing just that – downsizing in new, hassle-free versions. And now, there is a fantastic line of wonderful large family homes hitting the market that are out there for the taking.

“In December, if you just can’t resist those Christmas parties and aren’t going to visit homes, then prepare for January and make an appointment now with your mortgage broker now so you can get started and you don’t waste crucial time putting your papers in order.

“The chain of ownership is unlocked again, so if you think this might not be the time, then take off that party hat and think again.”
