London property market branded ‘crazy’ as £425-a-week house ‘with no photos or viewings available gets three offers’

A woman has expressed frustration with London’s tough rental market, saying she was not allowed to view photos or view a property, but three offers had already been received. Madeleine, who posts on TikTok under the account @macerlyofficial, told her followers how she struggled to see a property online.

The TikToker explains that she had seen an apartment online that had no photos or videos, instead it just had a layout, a price and a photo of the exterior. She continues to say that she called several times in three days asking to see a photo or video from inside the apartment.

When she called again to ask to come see her, she claims she was told they don’t offer tours of this property. He was then allegedly told they were unlikely to be doing any viewings as they already had three offers, despite the fact that no one had seen inside the £425-a-week flat, either in person or on line.

One person commented to warn the woman it might be a scam, but she responded by saying, “The agency is super legit and very famous.” Another user said: “From someone who was an estate agent, I can guarantee this was not a scam. Welcome to London.”

Others shared the woman’s pain trying to navigate the tough rental market. One person said: ‘I booked a viewing and they got an offer of a video. Another said: ‘The rental market is absolute madness right now. I just moved into a place yesterday after looking for 2.5 months.’

Another commented: “When I put my old room on Spareroom 3 weeks ago I got 300 messages…the rental market is wild.”

Others warned the tenant to beware of estate agents who pressure tenants into signing a contract quickly by suggesting there is high demand. One person said: ‘We just went through this – all I can recommend is sticking with a few agencies building a relationship with agents.’
